The cast of the FX comedy It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia has always been skinny on the verge of scrawny, with the barrel-keg exception of Danny DeVito. Now, surprisingly, star Rob McElhenney has gone and done a "DeNiro."

Recent photos confirm that the 34-year-old actor, who co-created the TV series about a bunch of mindless lowlifes, has been keeping his head fully immersed in a feedbag causing him to reportedly gain about 50 lbs.

With his beard, he now looks like Kenny Rogers' son.

McElhenney, who plays Mac, apparently did it to fuel more of the show's rude, dumb-and-dumber humor when Philadelphia returns in September. He posted a note on Facebook: "Fat Mac for Season 7?"

"It's been disgusting to watch him go through with this adventure," costar Charlie Day told the online site Screen Junkies. "We were a little on the fence about it for his own personal health and safety, but it has definitely made Mac a lot funnier."

McElhenney and his wife and very slender costar Kaitlin Olson, 35, welcomed a baby boy, Axel Lee, last fall.
