Man allegedly smashes Ford Explorer into parked big rig

LOS ANGELES - A man who police say may have been arguing with a woman in an SUV smashed the vehicle into the back of a parked big rig, critically injuring both of them, a police sergeant said.

The crash was reported at 2:19 a.m. at 30th Street and Vermont Avenue, Sgt. O. Green of the Los Angeles Police Department's South Traffic Division said.

The man and woman were possibly arguing inside a Ford Explorer before the man driving the SUV "started doing doughnuts (driving in circles) in the street," Green said.

Then the man apparently stepped on the gas and crashed into the back of the big rig, Green said.

City firefighters pulled the man and the woman from the SUV before they could be transported to a local hospital, according to a witness.
