Bradley Cooper opened up about his personal and professional lives in Esquire, on sale May 30.

Bradley Cooper is single, but he still has a woman waiting at home for him each night: his mother.

The actor revealed in the June issue of Esquire that his mom, Gloria, has lived with him in Los Angeles since his father, Charles, died in January.

"I love having her," he said. "I wouldn't have it any other way."

Cooper, 36, also lived with his parents in Philadelphia during the five months before his father passed.

Those are heartwarming yet surprising living arrangements, given that Cooper has spent the last two years steadily climbing to the top of Hollywood's hottest bachelor lists.

Cooper, like many other males stars of his age and caliber, could choose to ride the sudden superstardom that movies like "The Hangover" and "Limitless" have brought him into the beds of many willing ladies, but it's not his romantic exploits that he wants to be known for.

"Being in Us Weekly does not make you the right kind of famous," he told the magazine.

"Paul Thomas Anderson [director of 'There Will Be Blood'] does not read Us Weekly and go, 'Hey, look at this guy! I want this douchebag in my next film,' " he pointed out.

And that's what Cooper is primarily concerned with: his career.

Indirectly confirming reports that his split from Renee Zellweger in March was partially due to his intense focus on his professional life, Esquire said three friends separately said Cooper doesn't have an "off switch" when it comes to his career.

But when it comes to talking about his love life, he can shut down like the best of the media-trained celebs.

During a seafood-infused pasta dinner, the mag's interviewer asked Cooper how many times he's been in love.

His reply?

"But really, what do you think about the squid?"
