$312 million jackpot up for grabs in Friday's Mega Millions draw

Do you have what it takes to win?

By "what it takes," we mean "luck" -- the luck to pick all six winning numbers in Friday's multistate Mega Millions lottery drawing and win what has now grown to a $312 million jackpot.

That $312 million is getting mighty close to the all-time-record $390 million Mega Millions jackpot of March 2007.

Mega Millions is played in California and 41 other states.

And all you have to do to grab that jackpot is match five numbers between 1 and 56 plus the Mega number between 1 and 46. You can always check for the latest lottery results at http://dailynews.com/lottery.

There were no jackpot winners in Tuesday's Mega Millions drawing, but five California tickets ? sold in San Diego, Hacienda Heights, Thousand Oaks, Anaheim and Compton ? got everything right but the Mega number, and the holders of those tickets split nearly $1.5 million, taking home a cool $297,525 each.

If you do happen to get all six numbers right on Friday and win the big jackpot, you can take yearly payments totalling $312 million, or get $198.2 million in cash all at once.

And the retailer who sells a jackpot-winning ticket will collect a $1 million bonus from the Mega Millions lottery.

Mega Millions tickets are sold at more than 21,000 California Lottery retailers in advance of the drawings held at 8 p.m. Pacific time Tuesdays and Fridays.

As always, each ticket costs $1.

Through their

ticket purchases, California Lottery players contribute more than $1 billion each year to public schools.
