Kate Middleton has been much compared to her husband-to-be's mother, Princess Diana. An emotional Prince William reportedly walked hand-in-hand with fiancee Kate Middleton to place flowers at the grave of Princess Diana barely a week before their wedding.
The couple first rowed a small boat to the island tomb where the prince's mother is buried on the 14,000-acre Althorp Estate in Northamptonshire, the Daily Mirror reported.
The two, "choked with emotion," then visited the princess' final resting place this week, the Mirror said.
"It was very important for William to take Kate to visit his mum just before their wedding day," a source told the British newspaper. "Diana is still a huge part of her boys' everyday life and always will be."
Diana's brother Charles Spencer was aware of the visit to The Oval, as the island is known. The princess was buried on the estate, home to the Spencer family since the 16th century, after her 1997 death in a Paris car wreck.
While taking the somber trip, Prince William also showed his bride-to-be the nearby arboretum where he once planted trees with kid brother, Harry, the Mirror said.
Harry will serve as best man for the April 29 wedding at Westminster Abbey.
Prince William has expressed his desire to keep his mother's memory alive at the highly anticipated royal wedding. When he asked Middleton to marry him, the prince gave her his mother's diamond and sapphire ring to mark their engagement.
Official sources declined to comment on the report of the couple's visit.
