On The View yesterday, after Justin Bieber challenged co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck to a Segway race around the studio, he encouraged fans to come to a Macys event for his fragrance. And they did.
But the scene turned into chaos.
According to WABC-TV in New York, the teen heartthrob decided to deviate from his planned route and go outside to wave to the 400 to 500 fans gathered outside, which caused the crowd began to push through metal barricades.
At that point, a man jumped in to save Bieber and knocked him to the ground, according to what witnesses told WABC, but police didn't realize he was actually a security guard working for Bieber. When he refused to move, he was issued a summons for disorderly conduct.
A spokesperson for the NYPD tells The Hollywood Reporter that there was no attack on Bieber, as some early reports had said. "One of his bodyguards failed to follow lawful order" (to move), the spokesperson said. Bieber "was not even touched," he adds. "The only person touched was the bodyguard."
Spokesman Matthew Hiltzik released a statement saying: "It was a momentary well-intentioned misunderstanding and the event went well. He's completely fine and has no injuries."
