More and more schools across the country are jumping on the breathalyzer bandwagon, requiring students to pass breathalyzer tests to attend prom. Some schools, like Mountain View High School in Bend, Ore., will require all students to pass the test when they enter the prom; others just test students who appear to be intoxicated. The good news is that it seems to be working. Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Chairman Stephen Wallace told the U.S. News and World Report that a study they conducted found that just six percent of students said they have driven under the influence on prom night. He says that breathalyzers can be a deterrent for drunk driving. "I always say that there are a lot of tools in the toolkit that schools need to focus on," he said. "I don't think any one thing is going to make a huge dent, but together, they have a huge influence."
